![]() Prediction: Bobby Fish #1 Contender’s Four-Corner Survival As for the winner, I feel like Bobby Fish needs this win a lot more than Roderick Strong does, as it would certainly help further establish Fish as a singles competitor. I’m sure this match will be pretty great, as we all know how good both guys are. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a ⅔ Falls Match in ROH (at least it feels like they haven’t had one in a long time). I’m more certain that this match will definitely end the feud between these two. Prediction: Kyle O’Reilly 2/3 Falls Match For now, I’m going with O’Reilly to win this one. With all of that said, I have no doubts that these two will have an absolutely awesome match. Then again, I could just be overthinking things. I say this because, even though Cole technically did defeat O’Reilly at Final Battle 2015, he didn’t look like a winner, as O’Reilly had him locked in an armbar for a long time after the match. My instant reaction is to say Kyle O’Reilly wins, but I could see Adam Cole possibly getting the win here also. I know it’s No Holds Barred, but I just sense that the feud continues beyond this show. I just feel like they’re saving the final, climactic match for a PPV, possibly Global Wars or Best In The World 2016. Beyond that, comfortably, the best match that these two have ever had together.Hyatt Regency – Dallas, Texas No Holds Barred MatchĬontrary to what might be the popular belief, I don’t think this is end of the feud between these two. The match that all of their 2021 NXT matches (and their, idk, 2023 AEW matches) all pretended to be, or wanted to be at least. The result is not only a match that feels bigger and a little better than usual, but also one that manages to finish in a far more satisfying way than any match they’ve had before or since. A relatively smart and pretty nasty brawl, which maybe lacks in real next level shit but also is removed of every single mistake they tend to make in their normal matches. In real life though, this is as good as it gets for them. ![]() Maybe you can conjure up a better version of this match in your head. He collapses on his ass in what Kyle’s turned into a Triangle Choke, and finally gives up. In trying to lift Kyle up in it and stepping back on instinct, the chain tightens and straightens out as a result of Cole taking just a step back. The end comes after Kyle’s tied this gigantic chain to the ropes, and wraps it around Cole’s throat and neck, before going into an armbar.Ĭole fights up in it, but finally falls into a trap himself. Adam Cole both begins the match jumping O’Reilly with a steel chain and then spends the match setting up these traps that work because Kyle is mad enough to make mistakes. All the other stuff goes down a lot smoother when the gaps are filled up with these smaller moments where they’re hitting each other as hard as possible.Īnother hallmark of these 2010s Ring of Honor blow-off brawls is that, typically, the ending of the match is just about perfect for the way it’s wrestled, and this is no exception. Cole holds back a lot on the big faces, there’s not a lot of truly convoluted stuff going on, O’Reilly sells the brief little leg work pretty well for the rest of the match, and right up my alley, they spend the match really wailing on each other. That’s sort of how I feel about the entire thing.Ībout half of it you can see coming, but it works. They’re not always blowaway great, they can sometimes be a little predictable and rote, but it works. No chair shots to the face, but a ton of real nasty landings, gross shots, and real awesome spots in general. Also, while limited in what they do use, I can’t say with any honesty that this is a match lacking in brutality. If lacking in blood and not as full of mayhem as anyone who isn’t like seventy years old would want, they’re really great about building things up and paying them off in satisfying ways. Given how wild some of Cole’s PWG brawls have gotten, there’s a sense that there was so much MORE that they could have done.Īs for the positive, the great thing about an ROH blowoff brawl is that they always get a lot out of what’s there. It’s also relatively limited to the domain of one table, brief use of a chain, and a few chairs. It’s a really heated feud, and a little color might really push it over the top. Or I would, and I assume all of my experiences, thoughts, and feelings are near universal. To give you the damn veggies first, you would want more blood than you get. It’s a very 2010s ROH sort of a blowoff, in ways both positive and negative. Again, we’re just going to hop off and go to another world, because this is GREAT.
